Winning Shorthanded No Limit Games
As you play online, it will not take long before you notice that more and more individuals are turning to shorthanded No Limit games more than the full ring version. This is because the shorthand games offer more action. If you want to play in this variant, here are a few things to keep in mind.
The first is that you will need to play more No Limit hands. In full ring games you usually throw away hands like 9-10 offsuit, KJ, AT etc. especially if the game is tight aggressive. Remember, if pre flop half of the field fold, that means there are only three players left.
What that means is that you will be able to see the flop more cheaply and also, you will be able to make your drawing hands. The fewer players involved in the game, the greater the chance for you to make your hand. In addition, the fact that there are less players in a shorthanded No Limit game means your 77 or 88 will hold up better than in a full ring game.
Another thing you will have to keep in mind is that in shorthanded No Limit games, players love to steal the blinds especially if they are on the button. Because of this, you should make it a point to defend it. Here your reading skills will become critical, as a lot of players on the button love to bluff. If you sense that a particular player is just bluffing to steal the blinds, raise him.
If you get the nut hand, you should slow play it. Getting the set on the flop is one such opportunity. If you get the 999 on a 9J3 flop, you should just check call the rest of the way. Your opponents will be very aggressive and will likely call or raise anything you bet. Use this to build the pot. Once you get the pot built up, that is when you should raise or go all in.
When you play shorthanded No Limit always keep in mind that you need to be the aggressor. A lot of times new players get intimidated when they are in a short handed game. That need not be the case.
Remember that you are all dealt an equal number of cards. Just make sure to apply the pressure when it is appropriate and play your cards for their maximum value, and you will walk away with the No Limit pot.
